- By JOSHUA PARSONS

Saturday saw Mfuzo Boxing Club host a tournament to celebrate their 21st anniversary at BB Zondani Hall. The day was a great success for the local club, which has 35 members, as it allowed the young boxers from several clubs across the Eastern Cape to battle for medals and bragging rights.

The bouts were split into the cadet category, which was contested by boxers between the ages of 12 and 14; the junior category, which ranged from 15 to 16 years of age; the youth category, which ranges from 17 to 18 years of age; and elite category which ranged from the ages of 19 to 40. The weights ranged from 26kg to 75kg.

Also in attendance giving his support to the youngsters, was local boxing hero Mziwoxolo Ndwayana, the current WBC champion.

Tyson Dibela, a coach at Mfuzo Boxing club said: “Our tournament has been very successful. We are very glad about it, because we were very stressed about it and we are shocked about the success of the tournament.”
