Top jumping in G'town

The Grahamstow­n Riding Club hosted the recent South African Show Jumping National Challenge this year.

Although this is a provincial show it is part of a national event where the country’s best participat­e in their own provinces over identical show jumping tracks. The province annually receives national recognitio­n for their excellent provincial riders’ achievemen­ts in this event.

Some of the best provincial show jumpers were hosted and, as always, the Grahamstow­n Riding Club members held their own over the different levels.

During Saturday’s competitio­n, Carey Pohl riding Pohlands Witch Hazel came second in the Adult 1.1m competitio­n while Junior rider Jessica Rushmere riding Lady Tori won her 1.1m class

Megan du Preez on Best of Broadway came first in the 1m class.

Melissa Amos riding Kings Highway came second in the 90cm class and Emily Roodt riding Satchmo Bear came third.

Georgie Gerber riding Princess Patches won the pony rider 90cm class and Kei Repapis riding Digger came second. In the 80/90cm recreation­al rider class, Hanna Jones riding Rocky II came first, Beth Rennie riding Secrets Told came second and Sienne Evans riding Garrick came third.

The 60/70cm recreation rider class was won by Lily Bowker riding Tonto and Camilla Bowes riding Flammabell­e came second.

On Sunday, Carey Pohl, riding Pohlands WitchHazel, scored a third in the 1.2m competitio­n and a first in the 1.1m.

The juniors also excelled with Jesica Rushmere, riding Lady Tori, scoring a first at the 1.1m level while Megan du Preez riding Best of Broadway came first in the 1m class.

Melissa Amos riding Kings Highway scored a first in the 90cm competitio­n and Jessica Rushmere riding Al Khali came first in the 80cm class.

Pony rider Kei Repapis rid- ing Digger came first in the 90cm Accumulato­r class.

Hanna Jones riding Rocky II came first in the 80/90cm Accumulato­r Recreation­al Riding Class, with Alexis Bowker riding Jasmine coming second and Joshua Furtner riding Navajo Spirit third.

Lily Bowker riding Tonto won the 60/70cm Accumulato­r (Recreation­al Riders) class with Georgie Gerber riding Ruby coming second and Camilla Bowes riding Flammabell­e, third.
