Executive honoured by DSRAC

The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC): Sarah Baartman District recently handed over team attire to the Sarah Baartman District Executive structure.

The attire, which included jackets and ties, was handed to the School Sport Athletics executive.

Maasdorp Cannon, Department of Education sports officer, thanked the executive which is made up of teachers, adding that they “do this voluntaril­y”. Cannon said the initiative of branding the executives was a “step in the right direction” and he hoped that other sporting structures would follow the hard work by the athletics structure.

Freddie Jacobs, athletics chairperso­n, said he was grateful to be part of the first structure to be recognised by DSRAC. “It will raise our standard of competitio­n,” he said. Vuyiseka Nokenka, senior manager at DSRAC said she was proud of the work done by her sports officers and thanked the teachers who made up the executive for taking time away from their families to make sure the athletics in the district is of a high standard.

Nokenka said the purpose of the handing over of attire to recognise the work done by the teachers in developing athletics in schools.

The athletics executive is made up of teachers from schools within the Sarah Baartman District, including Kouga, Dr Beyers Naude, Kou-Kamma, Sunday’s River, Ndlambe, Blue Crane and Makana.

Warren Loubscher, the DSRAC sports officer in charge of school sport thanked all the executive members for making the trip to Grahamstow­n from across the district.

T20 Challenge at St George’s Park

The Warriors will be in action at St George’s Park tonight at 6pm when they take on the Lions in their first home match of the T20 Challenge.

The home team will go into this match second on the log and will be hoping that home ground advantage will play its part in securing another win.

The Win a Million competitio­n will be in play at this game and local fans will have a chance of winning their share of R1m. The competitio­n is open to all South Africans and to qualify, a fan must catch a clean one handed six. (T&C’s apply).

The newly designed Warriors App is now also available for download: A fun inter-active app with loads of informatio­n and competitio­ns.

Every fan that downloads the App will receive a free ticket to the next Warriors home match. In addition to the Win a Million competitio­n one lucky Warriors fan that downloads the app on Friday will have the opportunit­y to win with the Warriors “Bring your “A” game to our game” competitio­n. The name drawn will have the opportunit­y to catch three balls hit by the Warriors 12th man.

For every ball that is caught the fan will win R2 000. In addition to this, the Warriors will donate R1 000 for every catch taken to The Herald’s Christmas Cheer Fund.

The new look Warriors replica shirts will also be on sale at the ground and would make the perfect gift for Christmas. Tickets for the match are on sale at the stadium and www.ticketpros. co.za and are R60 for adults, R30 for scholars and pensioners with a special student price of R40 (with student card). Gates open at 4pm.
