Renault updates Sandero
Acar that has begun to appear around the Rhodes University campus more and more, the Renault Sandero, is this year expected to reach a total sale tally of 50 000 units in South Africa, sold since its introduction back in 2009.
In addition, the carmaker has given its budget hatchback an update and slight makeover for 2017. The big change lies in the model line-up, which is now comprised of the entry level Sandero Expression, followed by two trim levels of the Stepway, Expression and Dynamique. All models still sport Renault’s 0.9-litre turbo- petrol engine, good for a power output of 66kW and 135Nm of torque. On the external side, the Sandero has undergone a major redesign of its front bumper grille, similar to that of the Kwid and Kadjar models, as well as new headlights and tail-lights.
The Stepway maintains its rugged stance with roof bars, front and rear skid plates, and wheel arch moldings. Inside, the redesign has resulted in a new steering wheel and centre console.
Standard features in the Sandero Expression include front electric windows, Bluetooth, remote central locking and an ECO driving mode function. In the Stepway Dynamique, that list expanded with the inclusion of rear park assist, cruise control, and Renault’s MediaNav 7-inch touchscreen infotainment and navigation system, as seen in higher-up models in the Renault lineup. Safety features include Hill Start Assist, Emergency Brake Assist and front airbags (side airbags are also standard on the Stepway Dynamique).
Prices for the 2017 Renault Sandero start at R159 900, with a two-year/30 000km service plan and five-year/ 150 000km warranty as standard.
