Mayor urges residents to use water wisely
Makana Municipality is rapidly running out of water due to a nationwide drought.
This has put enormous pressure on the municipality to try and find innovative ways to save the little water we have in our dams. Some of the steps that need to be taken to conserve water will include scheduled water outages.
The seriousness of the water challenges has prompted the Mayor to issue a message out on the local radio stations urging residents to use water wisely. In a message that’s going to play on Radio Grahamstown and RMR, Makana Municipality Executive Mayor Councillor Nomhle Gaga has urged residents to heed the call to save water. In the message Councillor Gaga says the municipality is experiencing a massive water shortage. “Our dams are running dry, especially the ones that are feeding the Western side of town. Our failure to save water could lead to a situation whereby the municipality might not be able to supply water. We appeal to residents to work with us to overcome this crisis,” she said.
