Sanitary pad project grows

- By BONKE LIWANI

What started as an initiative to help young school girls with sanitary pads is growing into something bigger and more touching.

The project was started by Mama Nopinki Kukisi, who is the acting school social worker for township schools, when she noticed a dire need for other essentials that the children lack.

Kukisi works at the Department of Education, and loves children.

She is happy that her sanitary pad project is growing substantially in support since last year, and is now calling for more support.

“There are school children who go to school every day without basic uniforms in this very cold weather,” Kukisi said.

“I think we can come together and assist with whatever we have, because little children are not meant to bear these conditions.”

She is pictured right as a symbol for her cause, wearing only a shirt and tie in chilly weather – “like the children of some of the poorer schools do without a choice” she said.

If you can make a difference by donating school shoes, socks, jerseys and sanitary pads, please call her at 083 749 5292.
