Audition call for Tsotsi musical

Cape Town Opera has announced auditions for their new production Tsotsi, the Musical. With music composed by Zwai Bala and lyrics by Mkhululi Mabija this innovative adaptation of Athol Fugard’s novel will be directed by award-winners Neil Coppen and Khayelihle Dominique Gumede.

The production will premiere at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town on 7 February with an initial run until 18 February 2018.

First-round auditions will be held in Cape Town on 18 and 19 August 2017 and in Johannesburg on 21 and 22 August 2017.

Beside the 10 lead / supporting characters there will be an ensemble of 8 to 10 performers who will portray a number of characters and should be strong actors, singers and dancers.

Rehearsals will be in Cape Town from 11-22 December 2017 and then again from 8 January 2018 until opening.

For artists living outside Cape Town, CTO said in a media release they will be able to offer the following: Two return economy class air tickets between Johannesburg and Cape Town for the two rehearsal periods, or the cash equivalent of R2500 per return trip. "No accommodation will be provided but a R260 per day allowance in lieu of accommodation is offered," CTO said.
