Stone’s century tops Willows

In a Grahamstow­n Cricket Board (GCB) Central Albany 1st league fixture, played at Sidbury, the in form left arm opening batsman of Sidbury, Grant Stone helped his side to a clinical seven-wicket victory over Willows on Sunday.

Sidbury won the toss and sent Willows in to bat. Willows were on target to score a big total, but lost wickets at regular intervals. They posted 225/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Willows had a fairly good start to their innings but the home side’s bowlers took two early wickets.

Captain Mohammed Sonday (60, which included nine 4s) and Seviano Jasson (16), shared an invaluable 70-run partnershi­p to get their side back on track. They were well supported by Edrich George (37), Ruwayne Brooks (16) and Cole Wessels (14 not out). Greg Evans 3/50 in 10 and Nick Brokenshaw 2/36 in nine, were the home side’s best bowlers.

Sidbury opening batsmen Grant Stone and Greg Evans, gave their side a flying start, playing positively and aggressive­ly. Stone played some glorious shots in his magnificen­t innings of 114 not out (19x4), while Captain Cliff Savage (28), Greg Evans (24) and Hugh Oxenham (20 not out) also contribute­d. Brooks 2/54 in nine and Marquin Loutz 1/38 in 10, were the only wicket takers for Willows. Sidbury reached 229/3 in 42.4 overs, winning by seven wickets.
