Assistant Accountant
Role Summary
GBS Mutual Bank operates predominately in the long-term deposit, mortgage finance, and asset-backed finance markets. The Bank’s head office functions are in Makhanda (Grahamstown). The bank has additional branches in Port Alfred, Gqeberha, George, and Cape Town. A vacancy has arisen in Makhanda at the head office of the Bank for the position of Assistant Accountant.
The responsibilities for the Assistant Accountant are as follows:
• Preparation of monthly and yearly financials
• Preparation of monthly/quarterly and annual Statutory returns for the SA Reserve
Bank
• Record, depreciate and reconcile Bank assets
• Ownership of the Bank’s Creditor function
• Capture, analysis and review of General Ledger and Trial Balance.
• Familiarity with audit procedures and strict adherence to bank policy.
• Creation and submission of management reports as required.
• Any other duties as delegated by the Head of the Accounting Department or relevant manager.
QUALIfiCATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• The candidate should have a relevant BCom degree / diploma (NQF6) and five
years experience in a similar role.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Confidence in decision-making abilities.
• Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, word and PowerPoint.
• Advanced excel capabilities including the ability to analyse large volumes of
data
• Advanced knowledge of Pastel Evolution (or an equivalent application)
• Solid experience with Online Banking applications.
• Excellent time management.
• Must be a strong team player and ready to join a very dedicated team.
• An ability to work under pressure.

Kahlo was her source of inspiration when she became a person with a disability during a turf war in Cape Town in 1996. A camera on my Lap ponders questions concerning representation on the cinematic screen and responds to the challenge of creative practice during a pandemic.
