Give it legs
How should I go about painting the legs of my pine table white?
If the varnish is in good condition (and you wish to paint the legs a flat white rather than a whitewash, in which case you would have to remove the varnish entirely), you can lightly sand the legs with 220-grit sandpaper, wash them down with a sugar soap solution and then apply a primer (Dulux Supergrip Primer) followed by an acrylic PVA or water-based enamel. Sand lightly between coats.
