The renovation

The transformation began in September 2016 and was completed by November – just in time for the school holidays. First off, the garage roll door was replaced with a window, the wall connecting the garage and the rest of the house was broken through to accommodate an interior door, the walls were plastered and painted, the floors tiled and downlights and additional plugs installed. Plastic boxes on the shelves are used to stash toys and other items and the Naudés created built-in kists along the wall for the dual purpose of neat storage and seating. The kists are child-friendly with gas lifts (the same mechanism used in car boots) installed so that when open, the heavy lids won’t fall and hurt the children’s fingers.
