Using black as a base colour gives the silver leaf an attractive deep, dark hue. Remember, you’ll see the base colour when the silver leaf comes off or cracks, which can create a lovely effect. If you prefer a more solid finish, use silver as your base colour. You can use either enamel or PVA paint as a base coat, depending on the item’s existing finish.
