Game on!
A boring playroom in the Ficks’ Durbanville home was transformed into a fun space inspired by the kids’ love of Minecraft.

When Lydia and Reuben Fick couldn’t decide on a theme for their kids’ shared playroom, Isabel Barends of Love Lemon Interiors and host of VIA TV show My Plek of Joune came to the rescue. “The space was dull and uninviting and the children didn’t enjoy spending time there,” Isabel says.
Lydia was keen on a feminine space with soft colours and Reuben suggested bold accents. Then Isabel discovered that Lizelle and Stefan love the adventure video game Minecraft, which allows players to build with a variety of different blocks in a 3D-generated world. So she decided to use that as inspiration for a green-and-grey focal wall – and the kids were thrilled!
In the opposite corner of the room, an interactive chill spot was created for the kids, who love to draw. Isabel painted a sizeable section of the wall with blackboard paint.
We love this!
A shortened curtain rod was attached to the wall to hold a roll of brown paper for drawing.
