HOW TO

Paint the focal wall

-

To create the wall of cubes and a 3D effect, Isabel used varying shades of green paint with the darker colours coming to the fore and the lighter colours appearing to fade into the background. Here’s how: 1 Using a 5m tape measure and a long spirit level, draw dots across the wall with a pencil; you will connect these later. Measure out 30 x 30cm (or size of your choice) blocks and connect the vertical and horizontal lines with a pencil. 2 Mark the outside of the non-adjacent blocks with masking tape. “This method allows for the use of masking tape while the paint is drying without it affecting adjacent blocks,” says Isabel. 3 Using a dry paintbrush, paint a thin layer on the inside edges of these blocks. This seals the masking tape. Let it dry before continuing with painting the inside of the block. Let it dry for about an hour then apply another coat. 4 Leave it to dry overnight before removing the masking tape. 5 Mask off the remaining blocks with masking tape and repeat steps 2 and 3 until all the blocks have been painted.
