1 Draw a hexagon on the cardboard: start by drawing a centreline across the length (900mm) and another across the width (780mm) of the cardboard ( see sketch). Make sure they intersect at a perfect right angle to each other. Measure and make a mark 225mm to the left and 225mm to the right of the green dot, marking the centre of 2 the top side. Do the same on the bottom side. Now measure and make a mark 450mm to the left and right of the point where the centre lines cross. Connect the marks. 2 Use the craft knife and cutting mat to cut out the hexagon shape. 3 Starting on the bottom left section, place the cardboard flush on the skirting board 3 and against the wall. Secure it in position with Prestik and use the spirit level to make sure it’s straight. Trace it on the wall and mask the outer edges of the hexagon with masking tape. Position the template just above the masking tape of the first hexagon and repeat the process until you reach the ceiling.

4 When you get to the next row, fit the template into the hexagons left of it. Trace and mask. Keep doing this until the entire wall is filled with hexagons. If you get to an area where the template doesn’t fit, 5 simply bend the card a bit. 5 Now paint the hexagons in the three colours. We started by identifying which two hexagons to paint in Volcanic Splash 5 (red), then painted the rest randomly with the other two colours 6 and finally the two red hexagons. Let the paint dry after the first coat and then paint a second coat. Allow it to dry thoroughly. 6 Once the paint has dried, carefully remove the masking tape.
