[NADINE’ S KITCHEN RENOVATION]

Even though paint is her business, Nadine Vosloo, marketing manager of Tjhoko Paint, had to wait a long time for her own kitchen renovation. She tells us more:

“Why would you want to paint a 100% functional and modern kitchen?” was my husband Jaco’s reaction when I started dreaming about incorporating more colour and personality in our own kitchen. “Because I paint kitchens for clients every day, my fingers were itching to do the same in my own space!”

The Vosloos have been living in their 10-year-old home for the past five years. “Jaco loved the modern feel of the kitchen but I love the ‘old’ look,” explains Nadine. “I didn’t like the dark melamine. It was too lifeless. I love colour and Tjhoko Paint!”

Nadine came up with a plan: first, she transformed Lizz Meiring’s kitchen with a Mickey Mouse theme (watch the video online on Tjhoko Paint’s Youtube channel) after hearing that the actress and director had dreamt of having such a kitchen.

Jaco was impressed with the makeover and after Nadine had also revamped their neighbours’ kitchen, he was 100% on board.

As with a project for a client, Nadine created a “storyboard” and presented each element, colour and texture to Jaco.

After that, samples of the colours were painted on the cabinets to make sure that everyone in the household liked them.

Nadine’s vision was a combination of blue, grey and white paint with wood. “As much as I love paint, I also like natural wooden elements,” she says. “They add warmth and really complement each other.”

The end result exceeded everyone’s expectations. The kids and visitors are crazy about the new kitchen, and even Jaco is happy: “I love the colours, the texture, Tjhoko’s vinyl tiles and the general feel – it’s like a new kitchen!” >>
