1 Clean your chosen piece of furniture with sugar soap to remove any dust or dirt and let it dry. Paint your base coat with Annie Sloan Primer Red; add a little water for easy painting.
2 Wait for the Primer Red to dry and then apply Scandinavian Pink; use a dabbing motion, leaving a small border of the base coat of Primer Red.
3 Using the spray bottle, apply a mist of water on the border. Working in sections, alternate dabbing with Primer Red and Scandinavian Pink until you have a blended finish.
4 Using a small brush, apply the mix of Graphite and Honfleur, dabbing onto the edges and any imperfections in the wood to create a vintage feel. 5 Add some highlights by dabbing everywhere, except the edges, with Antoinette. Then add some more Scandinavian Pink, alternating with Antoinette and adding a little more Primer
Red to blend the borders and anywhere you have applied the dark brown mix. Continue blending, using the dabbing motion until there are no definite lines left. Mist with water, if necessary. 6 Attach the stencil just on the corners with masking tape; this allows you to check your stencilling as you go along. Use Annie Sloan Country Grey and a sponge roller. Make sure you remove excess paint by rolling on a piece of cardboard before applying to the stencil. Measure and use a small spirit level to make sure the stencil is straight. Repeat, using the stencil, to create an overall design that replicates a bone inlay effect.
7 Gently sand all over to smooth off the stencilling and the paint.
8 Wipe off the dust and apply a final layer of Annie Sloan Clear Wax all over the piece using a small Chalk Paint Wax Brush, wiping off the excess wax with a lint-free cloth as you go along. The following day, you can give the cabinet a good buff with a lint-free cloth.
9 For the top, first sand off the varnish and then use the Graphite/ Honfleur mix to make a wash. Take one teaspoon of the mix and add 300ml water. Brush on the wash and then wipe off any excess and seal with Annie Sloan Clear Wax. You could also apply the same paint finish as the base, instead of the wash.
