In love with their home

-

Frank and Gerda moved into their home five years after they were married, and they’re still in love with the spacious fourbedroom, four-bathroom property.

Their youngest daughter Anke, a student, is the only one still living with them; their older married daughters, Chené and Camilla, have their own homes nearby.

Gerda describes her style as a mix of French, antique and Victorian – every room boasts rich dark woods and touches of glass, silver and bronze. The couple love to explore markets and never pass by an antique or second-hand store without popping in to take a look; needless to say, their home is filled with interesting finds.

Gerda and Frank use their spare time to do things around the house, whether it’s painting, changing carpets and curtains, or moving furniture around. Gerda has dedicated the role of “personal handyman” to Frank, who happily obliges. The couple also enjoy maintaining their sprawling garden, complete with a bricked reading nook and fountain; golden abelia; white, purple and red petunias among other flowers; and a charming garden pathway that leads from the front of their home to the back.

From the garden, they look out over a large open field that goes all the way to the Du Toit’s Creek flanked by huge willow trees. “The air is often filled with the cries of guinea fowl that roam the area,” Gerda says. >>
