Summer colour
Annuals help fill spaces in a new garden and gaps in the border, and brighten entrances, patios, pots and hanging baskets. This month, plant seedlings of ageratum, aster, bedding begonia, bedding dahlia, browallia, celosia, cleome, impatiens, lavatera, lobelia, marigold, nierembergia, torenia, verbena, vinca and zinnia.
Alyssum, Californian poppy, cosmos, gaillardia, mignonette, marigold, nasturtium, Virginian stock and zinnia do well from seed sown directly where they are to flower.
