With a lick of paint

writes I have a metal chair I’d love to update. What can I use to clean it (it’s quite weathered) and which primer and paint products would you recommend?

Nadine Vosloo of Tjhoko Paint replies Tjhoko Paint is your solution! You will need: • 2 pieces of mutton cloth (or any clean, colourless fabric that absorbs moisture) • 750ml lacquer thinners • 50mm good quality paintbrush • Tjhoko Paint in the colour of your choice

Follow these easy steps: wet a cloth with lacquer thinners and wipe the surface clean. Wait approximately 20 minutes or until the thinners has dried completely before you apply any paint. Apply two coats of paint, letting it dry between layers.

Glazing is important for outdoor surfaces, as it makes the paint water- and UVresistant. On top of that, it creates a subtle satin finish. Wait at least four hours after painting before you apply the glaze. Tjhoko’s glazes are water-based, so you can paint over it again, should you want to. Here’s how: • Dilute the Tjhoko Clear Glaze in a different container with a third of water. • Use a clean, colourless piece of cloth (mutton cloth or T-shirt material) and dampen it with water. Squeeze and remove any excess water. • Dip the damp cloth in the glaze mixture and squeeze to remove excess. • Wipe evenly onto the painted surface. • Work in a well-lit area to ensure that the entire surface is covered and that you don’t miss any spots. • If the chair is exposed to direct sunlight and the elements, apply three coats of glaze, 30 minutes apart. • When the cloth becomes dry or sticky, rinse it in water and repeat the process. • When applying glaze on a flat surface, such as a tabletop, wait 48 hours before using the surface.
