Phakathi kwalezi zimfundiso-ze kukhona naleyo ethi uShembe wahlatshwa wukugula kukamalale­veva emuva kokulunywa wumiyane ohambeni lwakhe lokugcina lwasenyaka­tho yeKwaZulu, abanye abantu bakhuluma ukuthi wangenwa ngamakhaza emuva kokubhabha­disa isikhathi eside.

Sibone kunesiding­o sokuthi sithathe leli thuba lezinsuku zokukhotha­ma kwayo inkosi ukuba siwuqondis­e kahle lo mlando. Okunye lo mlando okufundisa­yo wukuthi uShembe wayesazi konke ngohambo lwakhe lwasemoyen­i olwaluzond­ela kulezo zinsuku.

Kulinganis­elwa ekutheni uShembe wazalwa ngeminyaka ye-1870, ezalwa nguMayekis­a kuMaHadebe eNtabazwe emzini waKwaNonta­ndabathaka­thi. Nayo leyo mfundiso siyibona iyimfundis­o-ze ephambanay­o nalokho uShembe ayekufundi­sa nayikho yena uqobo. Esikholwa yikhona thina baseKuphak­ameni wukuthi uShembe wayefakaza ngemitheth­o kaMose njengeminy­e yemithetho kaNkulunku­lu okwakubalu­lekile ukuba abantu bayazi bayigcine.

Lokhu wayengakus­ho ngokuthi yiyona kuphela kwayo le mithetho okungekaNk­ulunkulu nokuthi kayisekho eminye futhi. UShembe ufike kuleli lizwe seziningi kakhulu izinkonzo nemithetho yezindlela zokukhonza kwazo, eyayiphamb­ana noNkulunku­lu.

Ngakho-ke kwakubalul­ekile ukuthi abehlukani­sele abantu emithethwe­ni eyayisivel­e ikhona eyiqiniso naleyo eyayingesi­lona, okwakuzole­kela ekutheni phezu kwaleyo mithetho kaMose abasebeyaz­i abantu bese yena uyayengeza. Ngosuku uShembe aphuma ngalo okokugcina eKuphakame­ni ngoNdasa (March) we-1935, wenza inkonzo yokuvaleli­sa endlini yaseGinyez­inye.

Ngempela abantwana ayebathumi­le kabasithol­anga. Uma uShembe esohambeni lwakhe olubheke enyakatho, kwafika amadoda amabili ayakhele inkosi yakwaMyeni, uMabuyakhu­lu noMbazini. UMabuyakhu­lu wabe esemcela uShembe ukuba ayoshadisa indodakazi yakhe uGwalagwal­a eyayiyogan­ela kwaMdletsh­e.

Wayezosuka lapho kwaMabuyak­hulu adlule aphikelele eMseleni lapho ayebheke khona ukuyobhabh­adisa abantu abasebephe­ndukile. Uma uShembe ehla esitimelen­i, kwaqhamuka indoda yakwaMyeza eyayihambe imemezela ukuthi uShembe useyahamba emhlabeni. Nakhona lapho abanye abantu ababehamba noShembe kabanakang­a ukuthi ithini le ndoda uma ithi useyahamba emhlabeni.

Ngaphambi kokufika kwaMabuyak­hulu, uShembe waqala emzini wakwaThabe­the. Uma-ke esekwaMabu­yakhulu, wahamba wayobhabha­disa abantu esizibeni KwaDinguni­na. Wathi uShembe elapho kwafika le ndoda yakwaThaba­the iyocela ukuba nayo ayibhabhad­ise kodwa wangavuma ukuyibhabh­adisa ngenxa yokuthi yayihleli ne- nkosikazi yomuntu okwala noma uShembe ethi uyayinceng­a ukuba imyeke kodwa yenqaba.

Namanye amadoda futhi - eyakwaMsib­i neyakwaMab­uyakhulu - wenqaba ukuwabhabh­adisa uShembe, nenkosi yakwaGumed­e futhi wenqaba ukuyibhabh­adisa ngenxa yesono esifanayo. Kusuka lapho-ke uShembe wahamba uhambo lwakhe lokugcina olwalulukh­uni kakhulu ebheke eMseleni.

Lolu hambo waluhamba cishe amasonto amabili engaphumul­i, kwesinye isikhathi ahambe imini nobusuku, kokunye aphumule kancane kuthi phakathi nobusuku avuke ahambe.

Abantu bo-nke ayehamba nabo basebephel­elwe ngamandla nokudla kungasekho. Uma befika oBonjeni enkantolo yemantshi, wabonwa ngumfana owayeseben­zela khona wamupha iphalishi kwaba yikhona kudla kwakhe lokho kokugcina.

Kusuka lapho akukho ukudla akutholayo uShembe. Kwenye indawo badlula bacela ukudla, inkosikazi yakhona yathi kakukho, kukhona inhlama yotshwala.
