A dash of French flair
THE Peugeot 3008 SUV has been introduced in South Africa and is bound to create quite a stir in the motor industry.
The more so, since it won the European Car of the Year award for 2017 – the most important and prestigious in the automotive world.
By winning this award Peugeot has the distinction of building the first SUV to win the award since it was introduced at the Geneva Motor in the 1960s.
In so doing it beat six other famous brands like Alfa Romeo and Mercedes Benz.
For the South African market, Peugeot is launching the 3008 with a 1.6-litre turbopetrol engine which puts out 120 KW and 240 Nm of torque.
Fuel consumption is claimed a miserly 7.0L/100km. Like most things French the 3008 SUV, impresses through its style and interior fittings.
Entry level 3008s have 17-inch alloy wheels with colour-coded door mirrors and door handles, electric/ heated side mirrors with LED indicators, roof rails, automatic head lights, front fog lights, automatic wipers and LED daytime running lights.
A Bluetooth and MP3 capable radio is fitted along with an 8-inch touchscreen. It also has cruise control, hill assist and rear park assist.
Prices will range from R399.000 to R499 000. The Peugeot 3008 is sold with a 3-year/100 000km warranty and a 4-year/60 000 km service plan.
