Currently, MBI is guaranteeing students work experience and employment opportunities for the following qualifications: • Shipping and Logistics • Human and Social Studies These occupational qualifications, which are accredited by the Department of Higher Education’s Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO), include mandatory knowledge as well as practical and work experience modules, as prescribed in these SAQA aligned curriculums.

The exciting news is that MBI has placed 50 of its graduates in gainful employment in the Port of Durban since February 2018. More students will be placed in shipping and port-related companies during the course of the year. MBI is ideally situated at its brand new premises opposite Transnet’s Car Terminal, allowing students easy access to the port.

As MBI continues with the job creation mandate of the new leadership in the country, and as part of Transnet’s requirements, the employer will be conducting medical tests for the 25 students who will be placed in the Port of Durban. These students will be working at Transnet’s Container Terminals. This is a first in the maritime education sector and a huge statement for public/private partnerships in addressing the scourge of unemployment. Overall, this represents new hope for youth employment.
