Saal eager to make his PSL mark

know just how much of an exciting midfielder he is. Saal is a natural left-footer who plays in any offensive position from left wing, left midfield, supporting striker and even on the right. “I play in any position where I can be able to score goals and also create them,” says the 24-year-old. “I love playing the ball and being involved when the team gets going because I believe I pass the ball well and I consider my movement as a strength.” His arrival at Maritzburg came after he was initially spotted at Santos last season, having scored five goals and contributed several assists mostly from the bench due to the strict Under-23 rule in the First Division. He was then invited for an assessment in late June and it didn’t take long to convince Ernst Middendorp to sign him up. “I came for an assessment and just did what I always do when I get onto the field. So far I have noticed that Middendorp is strict and firm in his way of doing things. I respect him because all that he does is for the benefit of the team. The level of training has also been really high which means I can only improve from here,” he notes. Having signed a two-year deal with an option of another two years, Saal hopes to establish himself at the Team of Choice. “There is no need to be setting any goals because that creates unnecessary pressure,” he says. “All that I want is to do well for the team and come out as being someone who helps the team going forward. I’ve been so excited since signing, but the challenge is to now concentrate on the hard work ahead of me. I have to work and make a difference.”
