Khune should have already surpassed the 100 caps mark for the national team had it not been for the frequency with which he has battled injury in recent years. At present he is on 91 caps and counting. Though his game time at club level through the last year-and-a-half is a mere four appearances – due to injury and the good form of Daniel Akpeyi – there is no doubting that he remains the best South African goalkeeper to this day, a dozen years since he made his senior national team debut.
