At Primary School, Heugh played as a centre-back at North Pine FC, but was so reckless and rough that he was frequently sent off, forcing his coaches to move him to guard the posts. He played for Vasco da Gama and Glendene United, and then had a brief loan spell at Kuils River FC. He has played 18 games this season for Highlands – the most he has managed in a single PSL campaign.
