Heugh’s first salary in football was R500 at Vasco da Gama in 2007 when he was competing with Darren Keet as they came up the ranks. “That R500 was the reason I opened my first bank account in my life, and I remember I used to withdraw it all at one go. It wasn’t enough to take me through the month, but it covered the essentials because I was still in school. The next year I went up to R2,500,” he recalls.
