VAN HEERDEN’S PAST CLUBS

-

Marc van Heerden has made over 300 appearances in professional football for various clubs in a 17-year career in the top two tiers of South African football.

UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA: Van Heerden made his professional debut with AmaTuks in the 2005/06 season as they campaigned in the second tier. He quickly became a regular there and a key part of their side.

AMAZULU: The left-back signed for topflight AmaZulu ahead of the 2008/09 season and would spend the next eight years with Usuthu, where he established himself as arguably the best free-kick taker in the league. He later had another spell with AmaZulu in the 2018/19 campaign.

CHIPPA UNITED: It was something of a surprise when Van Heerden made the transfer to Chippa for the 2016/17 season, but he played just six months there before moving to Gauteng. ORLANDO PIRATES: The defender got his dream move to The Buccaneers in January 2016, but his 18-month spell there turned into a bit of a nightmare as they struggled for game-time. In the end he made only seven league starts, having also at times been played out of position in the midfield. STELLENBOSCH FC: After a brief return to AmaZulu, Van Heerden signed for Stellenbosch FC ahead of the 2019/20 season and arguably had the most settled spell of his career at the club. He was a virtual regular for in the first two seasons, playing in 56 of their 60 league games, and last term featured in 20 out of 30. His contract was not renewed though as Stellies let go a number of experienced players to bring down the average age of the squad.
