Getting blood from a stone would be easier…

-

Sorry, dear readers, for the life of me I cannot make the Know Your Knysna Councillor series happen as it was planned.

There are 21 councillors and in a list from the Knysna municipality, their names appear alphabetically, so in this new series each councillor was to be interviewed each week according to that list.

Since we were following the names as alphabetically ordered, all started very well with ACDP PR councillor Shakespeare Arends who is in cogovernance with the DA.

Arends was very helpful and pleasant and last week the mayor Eleanore BouwSpies gave an extremely comprehensive interview of what her job entails.

Despite this, the next two councillors on the list, Claudine Croutz who is PR councillor for the ANC, and Ward 1 DA councillor Lavael Davis have not responded at all.

My emails have gone into a dark empty hole. Perhaps Davis is waiting for Croutz? But then, who knows what has happened to her.

For your information politicians, readers like this column and have responded to our offer to ask their ward councillor questions.

Until the stones yield some blood, I will keep asking.

What worries me is that if this is how a public engagement with their wards is going to be treated, what hope do individuals have of getting to them?
