Both boys’ and girls’ Ramps teams bring home trophies
Riverwood Primary and Knysna Montessori schools combined their senior sports teams two years ago, starting with hockey, and so “Ramps” (Riverwood and Montessori Peoples Sports) was initiated.
The Ramps hockey teams participated in the semifinals and finals of the B-division for the Eden Primary Schools Hockey League on Saturday 1 September.
The event took place at Oakhill sports campus with four boys’ and four girls’ teams each in the A and B-divisions. The Ramps boys and girls walked away with gold in their division.
The Ramps girls’ team captained by Emily Edkins and vice-captained by Andrea Collins won their semifinals against Outeniqua Primary and beat Laerskool George Suid in the finals.
The Ramps boys’ team captained by Iyapha Matinyana and vice-captained by Rhys Lombard won their semifinals, also against Outeniqua, and played in an 8 second shootout to beat Glenwood House in the final.
All participants looked forward to the matches with a great deal of trepidation and excitement as this is the culmination of the great hockey that is played among the primary schools throughout the year.
The sportsmanship and commitment shown by the players, our coaches, Tarryn Edkins and de Wilton Lombard, and principals was a rewarding way to end the season.
Congratulations to all the teams.
