Local tourism players go digital
September was International Tourism month, with this year’s theme being “Tourism and the digital transformation”.
With this in mind, the Knysna visitor information centre – established by Knysna Municipality to assist the local tourism industry – hosted free photographic and social media workshops presented by talented locals who were willing to share their passion with the community.
The first workshop was a photographic information session presented by Africa Vumazonke, who demonstrated how to use your camera, understand what makes a good photo, as well as some advanced creative techniques.
Social media influencer Travel Bug Rose presented the second workshop on the basics of marketing and promoting your business using various social media platforms.
Competition winners
The centre also ran a cellphone photographic competition for Greater Knysna locals to show their favourite local experiences and locations, while focusing on the following themes: adventure, activities or food and culture in the area.
The winners were announced at a prizegiving event at the centre on 27 September (World Tourism Day). Knysna mayor Mark Willemse attended the event and encouraged local tourism industry players to embrace digital technology and use it to promote tourism and destination Knysna.
Cape Town film producer Patrick Walton of Shootaway Productions judged the competition and collated all the pictures into a short video. Walton discussed the merits of the winning pictures and the unique qualities that gave them the competitive edge.
Sedgefield local Mark Dixon was selected as the winner, and the second and third places were awarded to Knysna residents Veronique Klein and Stuart Lightly respectively. –
