LATER IN PREGNANCY, OBESITY INCREASES THE RISK OF:
• gestational diabetes, which can be life-threatening and needs to be treated through medication, insulin or diet, depending on the severity of the condition • pre-eclampsia, which is accompanied by very high blood pressure, swelling of the legs and, in severe cases, convulsions (it is also potentially life threatening) • hypertension (high blood pressure) • stillbirth, which is twice as likely to happen in obese patients • sleep apnoea, depression and constant tiredness.
