LATER IN PREGNANCY, OBESITY INCREASES THE RISK OF:

• gestationa­l diabetes, which can be life-threatenin­g and needs to be treated through medication, insulin or diet, depending on the severity of the condition • pre-eclampsia, which is accompanie­d by very high blood pressure, swelling of the legs and, in severe cases, convulsion­s (it is also potentiall­y life threatenin­g) • hypertensi­on (high blood pressure) • stillbirth, which is twice as likely to happen in obese patients • sleep apnoea, depression and constant tiredness.
