LOSE IT!

NEWS, VIEWS & REVIEWS

The start of a brand new year is always a great opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start something new in your life – whether you’re venturing into the low-carb lifestyle for the first time (keep going! It really will change everything for the better), jumping back on the bandwagon after a slightly excessive holiday or simply trying to hone your low-carb approach to better suit your personal health issues, metabolism and lifestyle, LOSE IT has your back! One of the things we like most about eating low carb is how liberating it is. There’s no measuring or weighing or counting – it really is as simple as eating real food and cutting out sugar in its various forms. But with that freedom comes responsibility: we all have to work out for ourselves firstly, what we expect from LCHF, and secondly, how our own body responds to it. Because we are all different: while the weight might absolutely fall off your partner or friend who eats between 50 and 100g of carbs a day, it may well be that you plateau at those levels. Life really is not fair… The tricky thing is, it’s only you who can work out the optimal levels for your particular system, through trial and error. Sometimes it seems as though it would be easier to have a blueprint, but the upside is it’s incredibly empowering to work out how your own body works, and to act on that knowledge. The low-carb path is broad: Keto, Primal, Paleo and LCHF all fall into it, and they are all slightly different. Again, only you can decide which works best for you: dairy or no dairy, high fat or healthy fat, fruit or no fruit – and so on. In LOSE IT we cover all of them, which can be a little confusing when talking about carb count. Very broadly speaking, although everyone is different and your particular tipping point between maintenance and weight-loss will vary depending on your own metabolism, your gender, your particular health concerns and, perhaps, how much exercise you get, in general these are the carb guidelines we follow at LOSE IT: 50 – 100g carbs per day = maintenance 25 – 50g carbs per day = weight loss Below 25g carbs a day = ketosis It’s always fascinating to hear what works for you, so please keep letting us know – we love your input. And no matter what our goals are, let’s all make this the year we reach them.

Happy (and successful) 2019, everyone!

Let’s do this! Until next time The LOSE IT team
