Diploma in Clothing and Textile Technology

If you are looking for an industry with a job waiting for you at the end of a three-year course, then look no further than the brand new diploma in Clothing and Textile Technology. In 2017 the course (part of our engineerin­g faculty) will kick off exclusivel­y at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) to replace the National Diploma in Clothing Management.

Using state-of-the-art equipment like 3D body scanners and a variety of technologi­es used in garment constructi­on like ultrasonic welders, buttonhole­rs and embroidery machines, students will be equipped with the scientific and technical knowledge to master any realm of the clothing and textiles field.

Thus far, all our students have found employment in the clothing, textile or retail sectors upon finishing this qualificat­ion, and are much sought after by the industry. A workplace-based learning component is also built into the course to ensure students are ready for the rigours of industry. Horticultu­re, on offer in the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. The horticultu­re diploma is unique in that it is offered in the Western Cape, home of the Cape Floral Region (one of the most bio-diverse regions in the world). Graduating as horticultu­rists, students will be able to work in any sector of the green industries, municipali­ties, Sanbi and SANParks, or advance to postgradua­te studies in research and/or further specialisa­tion in horticultu­re.

If you have more of a creative flair then the brand new Diploma in Landscape Architectu­re may be just the thing for you. The new offering replaces the old Landscape Technology course and will be the only diploma-level landscape design course offered in the Western Cape aligned with the South African Council for the Landscape Architectu­ral Profession’s core competenci­es.

With its architectu­ral and design focus students can expect to express their love of nature within a design and constructi­on context. Graduating as profession­al landscape technician­s, students will discover a wealth of career opportunit­ies in the design and constructi­on industries. the study of Geomatics has become a critically scarce skill. CPUT is the only University of Technology in SA to offer a Diploma or Bachelor in Geomatics. The new course is endorsed and accredited by the SA Geomatics Council and is based on a combinatio­n of the old Surveying and Geographic­al Informatio­n Science (GISc) courses.

Students capture, process and analyse spatial informatio­n about the Earth to assist town and regional planners, surveyors and civil engineers to plot and plan new developmen­ts.

The three-year course is split between two-and-a-half years of fulltime study with a six-month work integrated learning component, so students learn while they earn.
