Be pro-active and apply today for 2018
Your matric year has just kicked off, and the reality that you need to make a future career or programme choice has probably also started to sink in. Be pro-active in terms of your choices — here are a few guidelines:
Research your options
Read up on all the programmes we offer at Stellenbosch University (SU) by visiting www. maties.com. Learn more about what you can do with the different programmes and their contents. Make sure that you understand the selection criteria of the different faculties/programmes and take note of the closing dates.
Applications close for the programme MBChB in the faculty of medicine and health sciences on May 31, and applications close for all other undergraduate programmes on June 30.
Career advice can help you during your process
Prospective students are confronted with a wide variety of programme and career options — undoubtedly an advantage, but also a significant challenge. SU prioritises giving assistance to prospective students in facilitating realistic programme and career choices.
It is for this reason that we offer a professional career advice service. This service is available to grade 11 and 12 learners. The assessment includes a fourhour psychometric assessment of personality, aptitude and interests, a one-hour individual feedback session, as well as a written report of the results and recommendations.
Recommendations are made based on the client’s unique profile and can therefore include programmes at a variety of higher education institutions. This opportunity is offered to all prospective students and not only to those who wish to study at SU. For bookings or enquiries contact 021 808 4709 / svs@sun.ac.za.
Do not make assumptions
Often, you will hear different stories about issues like selection and admission into the university. Make 100% sure of the facts by talking to people who are informed.
You can also make an appointment for an information session led by an advisor. Information sessions are structured to give prospective applicants an overview of Stellenbosch University’s application process, admission criteria, financial aid system and student life. For bookings or enquiries contact 021 808 4709 / maties@sun.ac.za.
Be realistic
Large numbers of prospective students apply for our programmes. Unfortunately we can accept only a limited number of students. Even if you may meet the admission requirements of a programme, you are not guaranteed admission to the programme of your choice. Your final grade 11 results — or National Senior Certificate (NSC) if you have completed your final school year — play an important role in getting accepted into a faculty/ programme. application on www.maties.com to ensure that your application is complete.
Write the NBT
It is compulsory for all prospective first-year students at SU to write the National Benchmark Test (NBT), regardless of their matriculation year, studies at another higher education institution or examination system followed. If you apply for a programme in the faculty of medicine and health sciences or for a programme in law, you must write the NBT before the end of June, as achievement in the NBT is used in the selection process. Please visit www.nbt.ac.za or call 021 650 3523 to get more information and/or make a booking to write the NBTs.
Be proactive and apply online today to study at SU. For more information on what you can study, how to apply, accommodation, and fees, bursaries and loans contact the Client Services Centre at 021 808 9111 or send an email to info@sun.ac.za.
