The GoetheInst­itut has announced a prize in memory of the head of the Goethe-Institut in Abidjan, Henrike Grohs, who died in a terror attack in Côte d’Ivoire in March last year. Inspired by Grohs’s contributi­on to art on the continent, the €20 000 prize will be awarded anually to outstandin­g African artists in the field of visual arts, dance, theatre, music or film and those working in interdisci­plinary arts projects. by Nelson Mandela and Mandla Langa is an account of Mandela’s presidency from 1994 to 1999, which draws from the sequel to Long Walk to Freedom that Mandela never finished writing. Using Mandela’s unfinished draft, Langa picks up where Mandela left off, mining archival material and notes that Mandela made as events were unfolding. The book, published by Pan Macmillan, comes out on October 19 and is likely to be one of the most anticipate­d books this year.
