The artist’s solo exhibition includes a retrospect­ive of her drawings, sculptures and lithograph­s produced between 2003 and 2017. The Bystanders pivots around the The Guilty Bystander, a large, new wooden sculpture of an observant figure, who stands with her hands behind her back, surrounded by Schreuders’ previous works. In his first solo show at the Goodman Gallery, Cape Town, the Malawi-born multimedia artist will present a series of new short films — dubbed Nyau Cinema — in which he explores concepts of time, ritual and values from a playful, non-Western perspectiv­e. Since 2012, Swiss artist Mats Staub spoke to groups of all ages about reaching adulthood. Maia Marie and Nomonde Mbusi helped him give the project a home in South Africa. They have recorded people’s stories and then had them listen to their own answers three months later, while filming their facial expression­s, resulting in this video installati­on. Details:
