German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans’s touring exhibition, which has made stops in Kinshasa and Nairobi, is now in Johannesburg. Fragile takes a look at Tillmans’s multifaceted skills set, including large-scale prints, sculptural objects, video projections, music and curatorial work. A catalogue authored by the likes of Christine Eyene, Ashraf Jamal, Khwezi Gule and Neo Muyanga will be available. The exhibition seeks to offer a reading of contemporary black art and thought, to draw attention to Africans’ return to the spiritual. This programme invites audiences to explore the impact that documentary photography has had on contemporary art, design and publishing. Participants in the exhibition include the Market Photo Workshop, 21 Icons, Alon Skuy, James Oatway, Fourthwall Books, Stephen Hobbs presented by David Krut Projects, Vatic Studio Capsule, Mr Vinyl, True Design and Anatomy Design. Details: This programme will run under the banner of Art and Design Saturdays at Keyes, at 19 Keyes Avenue, Rosebank in Johannesburg on July 14. Entry is free, but visitors are encouraged to donate blankets or “gently worn” jackets for charity.
