Cosatu takes aim at DA
Trade union federation Cosatu has weighed in on the electioneering ahead of the 29 May vote. This week, the ANC ally took aim at the Democratic Alliance (DA) for its election ad depicting a burning South African flag. “We expect better from the official opposition than such illconsidered and juvenile antics,” Cosatu said in a statement before laying into the party for its stance on worker rights. “Given the DA’S recent unhinged attacks on the rights of domestic workers to be paid a minimum wage or its shameful proposals to slash the wages of cleaners in the public service, perhaps it’s time for an intervention in the frat party masquerading as the DA’S elections team by the elder statesmen in the DA.” In a separate statement, also released this week, the federation accused the DA of making election promises that would cancel labour protections afforded to women workers.
