Woman’s NGO spreads hope to less fortunate

- Jade le Roux

Alocal woman with a calling to help those less fortunate, especially orphans, has launched her own NGO.

The seed for Zamile Zulu’s Trumpet of Hope was sown when she began visiting orphanages regularly to provide essential needs.

“I would visit Thandi House in Chase Valley a lot. Growing up in a less advantaged family has given me great compassion for those in need and a desire to help them,” Zulu said.

Last year, after talking with her pastor who told her she had a calling to help people in need, Zulu decided to formalise her outreach into an NGO.

“Our main focus is to help families, and youth. We provide them with essentials and also look after their emotional and spiritual needs,” Zulu explained. So far, Trumpet of Hope is only assisting Thandi House, but hopes to expand and help more homes.

“My heart was so touched when we were able to give a fridge to a woman from Sakha informal settlement in Mkhondeni. No one was working in the family and the woman was using her fridge to sell food, until it broke. Receiving a new fridge meant she could keep her business going and support her family,” Zulu shared.

Zulu hopes to one day open her own home that will provide shelter, security and love to deserving children. Her vision for Trumpet of Hope is to join the gap between disadvantaged and established families.

The NGO is always in need of donations as they give as the need arises and don’t wait for fundraising events.

“We need volunteers, especially when we do campaigns. Donations are always welcome. If there is anything you are no longer using, you are welcome to give it to us to pass to someone who needs it.”
