Folk-rock feast at MiTH
Folk-rock guitarist, Heather Waters, is the headline act at Music in the Hills (MiTH) at the Knoll Historic Guest Farm in Hilton on Wednesday, February 1.
Road-tripping is something of a lifestyle for Waters, who has performed her music in villages, towns and cities from Cape Town to Corsica.
For more than a decade, she has written and created a definite style and sound for her work. Her songs and performances burn with energy.
Alone, or with a band, Waters' expressive guitar rhythms, honest lyrics, and passionate energy draw you into her performances.
Also on the bill is Matt Vend, who has been playing in bands since 1999.
His projects include the long-running punk band Sibling Rivalry, which managed to gain a loyal and cult-like following throughout South Africa and even parts of Thailand, and the shortlived, but extremely well-received Tubby Wilsons, which delved into both Vend, and fellow writer and musician, Yusuf Laher and The Nader's affection for nostalgic pop and punk music.
He was also involved in Durban’s first folk-inspired punk/rock ‘n roll band Car Boot
Vendors.
Although recording is a big part of this musician’s repertoire, live is where he shines. Vend is sure to create an impression on the MiTH stage yet again.
The opening act is Herbart´s Symphonic Brass, a high school brass band from Herbartgymnasium in Oldenburg, Germany.
Its members will be visiting Wartburg Kirchdorf School in February and will once again be making a stop at MiTH.
Their typical sound of saxophones, trumpets and trombones is blended with the light sounds of flutes and clarinets, and completed with a groovy rhythm section.
Mostly instrumental, they will add vocals for their trip to Africa and will practice and perform together with the WKS German group in this intercultural exchange project.
MiTH takes place every second Wednesday at The Knoll Historic Guest Farm. Doors open at 6pm and the music starts at 7pm. Entrance is R50 at the door. Bring your own booze. Food and soft drinks are available for sale.
