Woman living on the street brings out CD

- Linda Sparg

A woman living on the street in Mossel Bay has brought out a CD of 12 songs, in which she sings and plays the guitar.

Mia Wales says a series of traumatic events in her life led to her being homeless.

"One thing happened after another and I did not have time to get over one traumatic experience before another happened."

Mia has a background of drama and English studies. She enjoys teaching.

Her CD is titled Long walk for a wandelaar. She describes her music style as similar to the 1980s "emotional power ballads", such as

Bonnie Tyler's songs. Mia wrote the songs on the CD herself. They were completed in 2008, but they have been put on CD this year. Three of the 12 songs are Afrikaans and the rest, English.

Mia hopes she will be able to help other people through her experience of being homeless.

If you would like to purchase a CD, contact Mia's friend Judy (082 896 7645). Mia does not carry valuables such as a cellphone, because they tend to be stolen when one is living on the street. A branded, packaged CD costs R100 and a plain disk, R50.
