Murder victim was a good man, says family
"My brother was a good man. He came back from his initiation in the Eastern Cape in December and he was on the right track."
Murdered Siyahluma Tyatyeka's sister, Okuhle Tyatyeka, spoke to Mossel Bay Advertiser this week about her brother's death.
Siyahluma (19) was stabbed at Mountain View flats, which are opposite Heiderand, on Friday, 27 January at about 23:00.
An alleged witness of the incident met the Advertiser and Siyahluma's distraught family members at their home in Albert Luthuli in Mossel Bay.
The alleged witness asked to remain anonymous.
She said she had been present during Siyahluma's final minutes of life. At the time she had been walking in the area of the flats and saw a man with a knife in his hand. "All of a sudden he stabbed Siyahluma in his head in front of me." She says she called the police and the ambulance and stayed with Siyahluma. "Community members who were also on the scene chased the suspect and assaulted him." Siyahluma's tearful mother, Irene Tyatyeka, told the Advertiser her son's death was senseless. "We are just grateful that someone has been arrested in connection with his murder."
The Tyatyekas are a loving family who have been living in Mossel Bay since 2003. Siyahluma attended Indwe Secondary School. He did not have a job at the time of his death, but had wanted to get a job to earn his own money.
"We will miss my brother extremely," his sister, Sibonokuhle, said.
Funeral arrangements were not finalised by the time the Advertiser went to print. The family confirmed the funeral would be held in the Eastern Cape.
