Burglary, theft rife at weekend

Burglaries, break-ins and theft were rife in Mossel Bay last weekend.

A number of incidents, which took place in the Sector 1 and 2 policing areas, falling under Mossel Bay Police Station in George Street, were reported to that police station by the Bo-Dorp Neighbourh­ood Watch.

Sector 1 consists of the town centre, Upper Town, Linkside including the Van Riebeeck Stadium and Provincial Hospital areas, Santos and De Bakke.

Sector 2 consists of Da Nova, Tarka, Heiderand, South Cape College and the Mossel Bay Golf Estate.

Sometime between 16:00 on Thursday, 26 January, and 08:00 Friday, 27 January, housebreak­ing and the theft of a motor vehicle took place at the business, Flowerbox, in Kloof Street, Mossel Bay.

The burglars opened the door by force. They took cameras, keys and a laptop and took the vehicle keys and drove off with the vehicle. The registrati­on is CBS 4682.

Also, housebreak­ing and theft were reported to have taken place sometime from 18 to 26 January in Montagu Street, in the Mossel Bay town centre

The door was opened by force. The burglars took a tent, an electric extension cord and a fire extinguish­er.

The wheel rims of a Ford EcoSport were stolen in Rodger Street during the night of 26 January or the early morning of 27 January.

Thieves stole three Samsung plasma TVs at Little Lighthouse Preschool, on the corner of 11th and 21st avenues in Linkside, Mossel Bay.

Cigarettes, a passport, ID book and vehicle documents were stolen out of a vehicle parked in Cuff Street between 08:00 and 10:30 on Sunday, 29 January.

Another theft out of a motor vehicle took place in Point Road at the Spur restaurant parking area. Thieves took a bag with clothes, books and a Nike backpack. The incident took place between 18:30 and 19:05 on Monday, 30 January.

An incident of housebreak­ing and theft in Danie de Jager Street between 27 and 29 January was reported. Thieves opened a door and took a pink and black bicycle.

In the sector two policing area a burglary at South Cape College in Heiderand was reported. It took place on 29 January between 06:00 and 08:45. An aluminium window frame with the window was stolen.

Mossel Bay Police arrested a suspect for common robbery at the graveyard in Heiderand.

On 28 January, a Toyota Hilux bakkie rim and mag wheels were stolen in Con van der Walt Street, Da Nova.

In Vuurdoring Street, Heiderand, thieves broke the window of a motor vehicle and stole a Huawei P smartphone.

Mossel Bay Police arrested four people for the possession of drugs and one for the possession of housebreak­ing tools.
