Simunye collect crucial points at home

- Zama Gagu

The Lawaaikamp soldiers, Simunye FC, collected much-needed points in the Safa Eden Third Division, when they sank the newly-promoted Sea Birds from Mossel Bay 2-1 on Saturday, 28 January, at Lawaaikamp Stadium in George.

Simunye captain Sesethu Jack had an exceptional game that culminated in scoring two goals for his side; the third goal of the match was scored by Saimamkele Bele for the Sea Birds.

In chilly, rainy weather, the game started at a fast pace, with both teams playing the ball on the ground.

The visitors were no walkover and the tough game grinded on with no goals scored in the first half.

Sea Birds won the first corner kick but didn't manage to turn it into points. More than one attempt by Anathi Tafeni and an opportunity missed by Saimamkele Bele marked Sea Birds' first half.

The second half saw more action on Simunye's side with Barry Winter making a superb run and delivering a powerful kick, but it went over the goal. The first goal was scored by Saimamkele Bele of Sea Birds.

However, Simunye came back strongly to equalise with their first goal from captain Sesethu Jack. Keeping up the pace, Simunye scored their second goal, again from the boot of Sesethu Jack, after a clever pass from the centre of the field. Sea Birds tried hard but couldn't break through Simunye's strong defence to equalise and the game ended 2-1 in Simunye's favour.
