Raising funds for animals in need
Hartenbos animal behaviourist and dog trainer Steven Montgomery is holding a fundraising competition for animals in need.
The beneficiaries will be the Hartenbos Feral Cat Organisation and Borcherds Paws.
Borcherds Paws is active in the Borcherds informal settlement in George, feeding undernourished pets and organising vet care and sterilisations for them.
It also creates awareness about and provides education on pet care.
Montgomery wants to ensure Borcherds Paws “takes on 2024 with less financial stress and is capable to feed and sterilise more Borcherds Pets than ever before”.
He also chose the Hartenbos Feral Cat Organisation because of the sterling work it does “to create awareness of and improve the lives of the Hartenbos feral cats”.
He explains that the organisation is a team of volunteers in the Hartenbos area, committed to managing, feeding, caring for and controlling the cat population in Hartenbos. At the moment the numbers haven stabilised, he notes.
Montgomery notes that the feral cat organisation’s vision is to provide a safe haven - free of victimisation, disease and discomfort for the feral cats - through the available skills and commitment of the volunteers, which include TNR (trap, neuter and release) veterinary care and feeding stations.
Montgomery has organised many
attractive prizes which members of the community can win if they make donations to Borcherds Paws and the feral cat organisation, as part of the competition.
They include tandem skydives, holiday accommodation, restaurant vouchers, cases of wine, supermarket vouchers, photoshoots, scuba diving vouchers, dog toys and picnic and gym vouchers.
There are 150 or more prizes that have been donated, he says.
