South Cape College wins national award
South Cape College, a TVET college which comprises six campuses including one in Mossel Bay, has won a national award.
TVET stands for technical and vocational education and training.
The college competes in an intercollege entrepreneurship competition for students every year and it is for its achievement in this competition that the college won the award.
During the National Allan Gray Makers Entrepreneurship Inter-College Competition held in September in Johannesburg by the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation, the college received an Allan Gray Makers Award for Entrepreneurial TVET College 2023.
South Cape College principal Dr Tercia Terblanche expressed her gratitude to all the sponsors of the competition.
"This achievement would not be possible without the loyal support of all the sponsors.
"This is a super proud and joyous moment for all college staff and students to celebrate. A special word of thanks to all staff at South Cape TVET College who worked tirelessly behind the scenes with very little to no resources to make this project a reality for all potential SCC TVET-Preneurs who the college continues to serve in the Garden Route, Little and Central Karoo Districts.
"We also recognise and acknowledge our student participants (SCC TVETPreneurs), who entered the 2022 and 2023 competitions, since this project is all about serving our students and instilling in them an entrepreneurial mindset, to own fully-fledged SMMEs. Together we are turning every campus into a student enterprise space at South Cape TVET College."
The Allan Gray Makers Programme aims to provide transferable entrepreneurial skills and support to youth pursuing a technical or vocational trade, encouraging them to choose entrepreneurship as a career option. One of the main objectives is to increase the number of responsible entrepreneurs, dedicated to conceptualising and building sustainable, responsible businesses in various technical or vocational trades.
