Empowering youth to take care of the environment

-

Sophumelela Qoma, Mossel Bay:

I am the coowner of the Shark Research Unit and now founder of the iOcean Investment Trust, which was launched on 4 November

The launch event at the Hartenbos heated swimming pool brought together 52 amazing individuals, including children aged 14 to 16, dedicated swimming instructors, vigilant lifeguards and NSRI volunteers.

Together, we are on a mission to nurture a nature-conscious generation, fostering a deep connection with our environment and empowering it to take meaningful action.

On 4 November, we took a monumental step towards a brighter, nature-conscious future. With immense joy and gratitude, we're thrilled to announce the official launch of our foundation. It's been an incredible journey, and it wouldn't have been possible without the unwavering support and generosity of the Mossel Bay community.

A special thank you to the swimming life coaches, Ilma Smocilac who taught me to swim and Elaine Stander, who we have worked with and trusted with these youngsters.

Also, huge gratitude goes to our sponsors for their assistance and donations.

These contributions were the cornerstone that enabled us to kickstart this exciting journey.

We are now starting our process of selecting and appointing "LeadXcelerate Ambassadors" who will mentor the next cohort of eco-conscious leaders. We're excited about the impact we will create together in 2024.
