Brilliant performance for Sussex women by whizz-kid Tiché

-

Mossel Bay's Sussex women’s cricket team travelled to Plettenberg Bay on Saturday, 2 December, for a 30-over match against Plett Pioneers.

Sussex won by seven wickets.

Plett batted first and never gained any momentum in their innings, due to the regular fall of wickets.

Relentless

The venomous opening bowler, 14-year-old Tiché Frans, was relentless, bowling attacking lines to keep the Pioneers’ batters in check.

Pioneers were bowled out for 59 runs in 18 overs, with player-coach Elzaan Pietersen returning with figures of three wickets for 12 runs. Tiché was, however, the pick of the bowlers, taking a superb haul of seven wickets for 23 runs. She scored 29 runs and Elzaan made 26 to make very light work of the chase.

The winning runs were scored in the 7.5 overs.

The team is playing an away match against Knysna Cavaliers tomorrow, Saturday, 9 December.

Two players from Sussex Cricket Club,

Tiché and Gracey Johnson (16), have been selected for the Garden Route Badgers U16 girls’ team. They will participate in the Cricket South Africa schools week, which will be held in Pietermaritzburg from 12 to 16 December.

Great achievement

This is a great achievement and the club is immensely proud. Gracey attends Point High School and Tiché, Sao Bras High School.

Tiché is the captain of the team. She is a top order batter and bowler and can keep wicket as well, a true all-rounder. Tiché was selected for the U15 Western Cape cricket team in 2022 and plays for the boys' team of the D’Almeida cricket hub.

Remarkable

Wicket keeper Gracey will be playing for the U16 Badgers for the second time. This is truly remarkable as she only started playing cricket in 2022. The girls are looking forward to playing in the tournament and representing Mossel Bay. Sussex's home ground is the D'Almeida cricket stadium.
