New Community Safety head has much experience
Graeme Lategan, the recently appointed director of Community Safety at the Mossel Bay Municipality, has successfully navigated his inaugural high-demand holiday season in Mossel Bay.
Having assumed office just before the peak holiday period, Lategan, originally from East London and Port Elizabeth, brings a wealth of expertise in senior managerial roles and law enforcement to the municipality.
Commencing his career with the Department of Correctional Services, Lategan later transitioned into the traffic service, where he held senior management positions at both municipal and provincial levels in multiple provinces.
Driven by a passion for management and leadership, he ventured into the corporate arena as a consultant, extensively travelling to collaborate with clients across Africa and the Middle East. This journey earned him recognition as a distinguished keynote speaker, international facilitator, and expert trainer specialising in management, leadership, resilience, performance management, organisational development, and emotional intelligence.
Combining 40 years of public and corporate experience and exposure with a commitment to ongoing education, he is currently pursuing a PhD in management and innovation technology.
Lategan emphasises the importance of "adaptability and adaptagility" in fostering customer-centricity and employee experience. In his new role as director of Community Safety, he envisions driving service excellence through value creation and high-performance culture initiatives within the directorate.
His management approach centres on performance-driven strategies, aiming to provide the community with the excellent service.
"I am genuinely excited about connecting with the Mossel Bay community and implementing strategic, world-class practices in our community safety sections, elevating our operations and responses to new heights," said Lategan.
“I am very pleased to have Graeme on board who will contribute bringing a mixture of business and operational expertise into play. It is essential that structures, resources and projects initiated in the last two years, be built and expanded on.
"The entire community safety portfolio worked as a collective during December since Graeme’s appointment and it was evident that strategically, there is a good alignment and a readiness to set new goals and achieve objectives,” said portfolio chairman for Community Safety, Councillor Leon Van Dyk. -
